Message-ID: Hi RDAP community, The 2017 fundraising team would like your help in raising awareness about our fundraising efforts for the upcoming RDAP conference to be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Seattle on April 19-20, 2017. If we can meet our goal of raising $8,000 in support of RDAP 2017 both participants and sponsors will benefit. Here is how you can help: *Become a Sponsor* Sponsors of the RDAP Summit will get direct face-to-face networking time and exposure with a core and growing group of over 120 library and information professions that specialize in research data management. Our audience consists of researchers and librarians from predominantly (but not exclusively!) North American institutions in academic, government, and private sectors and they work in areas that deal with issues such as data storage, data analysis, massive data transfer, data curation, open data/data publication, and digital preservation. Interested? Take a look at the sponsorship levels and benefits on the 2017 RDAP Summit sponsorship webpage to determine how your organization will participate in one of the most valued data-themed library conference in the United States. Then reply to this message or contact someone on our team. Vendor table space is limited, so hurry to secure your spot at RDAP 2017! *Not a sponsor but want to help? Connect us!* Please share this message with anyone who could be a potential sponsor. Our growing network of research data professionals and vendors is what makes RDAP special and your help is much appreciated! If we successfully meet our fundraising goals this year we will significantly lower registration costs for all attendees and make RDAP 2017 another impactful event for you and your colleagues. Either way that you decide to help, let?s remember to keep RDAP special! RDAP is a small and engaged community looking to build partnerships and learning opportunities with our colleagues in the non-profit and commercial spheres. A sponsor of RDAP should be equally excited to be a partner with the practitioners and institutions present and recognize that we all benefit from community-building and dialog. Thanks for your essential support and involvement with our fundraising this year! The call is issued for two years this time to enable better planning ahead of the conferences and to secure a good geographical distribution over time. Proposals from all geographic areas will be given consideration. *Important dates* The Open Repositories Steering Committee is accepting Expressions of Interest (EoI) to host the OR2018 and 2019 conferences until September 23rd, 2016. Shortlisted sites will be notified by the end of October 2016. *Background* Candidate institutions must have the ability to host at least a four-day conference of approximately 300-500 attendees (OR2016 held in Dublin, Ireland drew more than 450 people). This includes appropriate access to conference facilities, lodging, and transportation, as well as the ability to manage a range of supporting services (food services, internet services, and conference social events; conference web site; management of registration and online payments; etc.). The candidate institutions and their local arrangements committee must have the means to support the costs of producing the conference through attendee registration and independent fundraising. Fuller guidance is provided in the Open Repositories Conference Handbook: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/or11/Open+Repositories+Conference+Handbook on the Open Repositories wiki: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/or11/OR+Steering+Committee+Home. *Expressions of Interest Guidelines* Organisations interested in proposing to host either the OR2018 or OR2019 conference should follow the steps listed below: 1.Expressions of Interest (EoIs) must be received by September 23rd, 2016. Please direct these EoIs and any enquiries to OR Steering Committee Chair William Nixon . 2. As noted above, the Open Repositories wiki has a set of pages at Open Repositories Conference Handbook which offer guidelines for organising an Open Repositories conference. Candidate institutions should pay particular attention to the pages listed at "Preparing a bid" before submitting an EoI. 3. The EoI should be fairly brief (1-2 pages, or email length), and must include: a. the name of the institution (or institutions in the case of a joint bid) b. an email address as a first point of contact c. the proposed location for the conference venue with a brief paragraph describing the local amenities that would be available to delegates, including its proximity to a reasonably well-served airport d. Preferred year, if applicable 4. The OR Steering Committee will review proposals and may seek advice from additional reviewers. Following the review, one or more institutions will be invited to submit a detailed proposal. 5. Invitations to submit a detailed proposal will be issued by the end of October 2016; institutions whose interest will not be taken up will also be notified at that time. The invitations sent out will provide a timeline for submitting a formal proposal and details of additional information available to the shortlisted sites for help in the preparation of their bid. The OR Steering Committee will be happy to answer specific queries whilst proposals are being prepared. *About Open Repositories* Since 2006 Open Repositories has hosted an annual conference that brings together users and developers of open digital repository platforms. For further information about Open Repositories and links to past conference sites, please visit the OR home page: http://sites.tdl.org/openrepositories/ . Subscribe to announcements about Open Repositories conferences by joining the OR Google Group: http://groups.google.com/group/open-repositories. These national reports on internet connectivity and use have been issued by the FCC each year since 2010. They are written based on the kinds of data that you are asking about, and in many cases, you can drill down to get access to the FCC's data. You may also want to bear in mind that the majority of the currently dominant online services (twitter, pinterist, snapchat, etc) did not have widespread adoption until late in the 2000s (e.g. youtube wasn't founded until 2005 = no data from youtube from 2000-2005). The distribution of users (demographically speaking) has changed dramatically during the period 2000-present, so much so, that there are questions as to whether the user behavior of early adopters is meaningful to compare to current users, and if so, then how to stratify the data to make the discussion of the two population groups commensurate. Here are the links to the FCC's reports and data: https://www.fcc.gov/reports-research/reports/broadband-progress-reports/eighth-broadband-progress-report https://www.fcc.gov/reports-research https://www.fcc.gov/reports-research/data Best, -l L.
