The Data Research Services and Biomedical Librarian (the Librarian) supports research and teaching on campus with a focus on the Biological Sciences Division and the Medical Center, providing data research services, such as finding, manipulating, analyzing, and managing data; research and clinical support services such as instruction, outreach, and conducting systematic reviews.

Working as part of collaborative team, the Librarian promotes data resources and services; provides instruction, consultation, and outreach primarily in the biomedical sciences; supports faculty in the use of electronic laboratory notebooks; participates in selection, management, and delivery of data resources; and works closely with faculty and other campus partners.  Collaborating with the institutional repository staff, develops new infrastructure to support research and address relevant data management issues.

The Librarian develops innovative programs and services through an understanding of research and teaching trends, the structure of the scholarly literature in medicine and biological sciences, patterns of scholarly communication, and data lifecycle management. Creates and maintains research guides. Plans and conducts assessment activities with library colleagues.

Reporting to the Director for the Science Libraries, this position is situated in the John Crerar Library and works closely with others in the Library, Medical Center, and on campus to provide data, research, and clinical support services.

The Librarian ensures that library staff is informed of current research and data trends and activities, including available research tools and resources. The Librarian identifies and organizes training sessions, partnering with others at the University involved in scientific research, and provides collection development support in selected subject areas.
Other responsibilities include service on library and university-wide committees and task forces and participation in local, regional, and national professional organizations.
