See details below. Curating Research Data: How We Manage It Today and Why We Should Collaborate in the Future Monday, February 27 | 2-3pm CST Presenter: Lisa Johnston, University of Minnesota As reproducibility and data sharing emerge as key issues for academic researchers, the data management services offered by the library must grow from consultation and guidance to hands-on data curation and service. For two years the University of Minnesota Libraries have offered a robust service involving multiple data curation specialists that curate data deposited into our Data Repository for the University of Minnesota (DRUM) and appropriate subject data repositories. Data curation steps, including quality assurance, file integrity checks, documentation review, metadata creation for discoverability, and file transformations into archival formats, are value-add services that enhance digital data for long-term preservation and reuse. This talk will explore the data curation workflows and staffing in place at our institution and also highlight procedures in place at disciplinary and institutional such as Dryad, ICPSR, Yale, and the U of New Mexico. These experiences are collected in a new book titled Curating Research Data: A Handbook of Current Practice, released as an open access ebook by the American College and Research Libraries in January 2017. The RDAP Future Vision Task Force (a subset of the RDAP planning committee) has been working to clarify RDAP's role and purpose. A large part of that process has been to craft a series of statements that the task force feels encompasses the three core aspects of RDAP: mission, community, and annual summit. This short survey (2-5 min) will ask for your feedback on the draft statement and provide three additional questions which will have a hand in shaping the future of RDAP. Please complete the survey by EOB Friday 3/3/2017. The results of this survey and information regarding future trajectories will be presented at the 2017 RDAP conference. I?d like to share an opportunity for those of you involved in data management and digital scholarship services at research libraries: the Digital Library Federation (DLF) has opened a call for interest regarding its 2017 eResearch Network (eRN). The eRN is a community of practice focused on resource-sharing, collaboration, and networking. Over the course of six months, our amazing faculty, Jason Clark and Sara Mannheimer, will lead participants through a series of webinars, practical assignments, and cohort discussions that will help the teams build skills and programs at their institutions. This list, I think, really distills the spirit and practical goals of the Network: ? Promoting program development among research libraries ? Enabling development of a community of professionals engaged in data services and digital scholarship support ? Fostering collaboration between participant institutions (past and present) and DLF members at large See this page for more, and be sure to submit your contact info here to ask questions of the faculty + receive further information about participating. DLF member institutions will receive a discount on tuition, but membership is not required in order to participate. So please share with anyone you think may be interested!
