Johnston. These volumes present those tasked with long-term stewardship of digital research data a blueprint for how to curate those data for eventual reuse. Data are becoming the proverbial coin of the digital realm: a research commodity that might purchase reputation credit in a disciplinary culture of data sharing, or buy transparency when faced with funding agency mandates or publisher scrutiny. Unlike most monetary systems, however, digital data can flow in all too great an abundance. This profusion of digital research data challenges library and information science professionals to harness the flow of information streaming from research discovery and scholarly pursuit and preserve the unique evidence for future use. Volume One, Practical Strategies for Your Digital Repository, explores the concepts of research data and the types and drivers for establishing digital data repositories. Volume Two, A Handbook of Current Practice, looks across the data lifecycle and into the practical strategies and techniques for curating research data in a digital repository setting. Data curators, archivists, research data management specialists, subject librarians, institutional repository managers, and digital library staff will benefit from these current and practical approaches to data curation. Digital data is ubiquitous and rapidly reshaping how scholarship progresses now and into the future. The information expertise of librarians can help ensure the resiliency of digital data, and the information it represents, by addressing how the meaning, integrity, and provenance of digital data generated by researchers today will be captured and conveyed to future researchers. Curating Research Data is available for purchase in print [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ppO8f6fw1f5J045wQ78pm-e1wgkS8ROBuS8JxUF0YCi7Ws-TIu7b9JdEm3__NNjqoQHIeBbJtC9vK5gXn0eTt4qgmHP_FaHFq5NOBRhQn9A3PMwQmcM96HIFZ2NwVNxy1KXeWHLOAN84knHMZbIT63PizBhdRL_ZfsJk2d0z8tZQBqtglWvSgKegcktaxrGrXj_YJCfvG8fwrLxWC-_OUw==&c=DTA1R6C0OI-lgb4IEKFTRbAfHGNhPv79LA07ZyxdLecBjMXv_aDSQg==&ch=YXe6HccffRpZj2_zIKUtbdkUiuzWmWuNVVAnREOTDjHbC528_aUoUg==] through the ALA Online Store; in print for volume one [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ppO8f6fw1f5J045wQ78pm-e1wgkS8ROBuS8JxUF0YCi7Ws-TIu7b9JdEm3__NNjqTnHP9GhZRVH1cA-p8LJXtvMbBjKrtrPFa9LHpG2NSJIUzgNZuzBgV2CIOUCbIDHm8Q2fk6aOynhV793v5rlwScYtORm7TXM6Wv59Byw8W0g=&c=DTA1R6C0OI-lgb4IEKFTRbAfHGNhPv79LA07ZyxdLecBjMXv_aDSQg==&ch=YXe6HccffRpZj2_zIKUtbdkUiuzWmWuNVVAnREOTDjHbC528_aUoUg==] and volume two [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ppO8f6fw1f5J045wQ78pm-e1wgkS8ROBuS8JxUF0YCi7Ws-TIu7b9JdEm3__NNjqdzkGnfpci3kTqj44AubkGn5xYc86hBbiKPdPT9Y13wq8coG-yhm9Sg5QD0jHKAc4RgBn2gmKop9yNvzf5XJhAc7S6J0umUhAfeVGcBXUqXw=&c=DTA1R6C0OI-lgb4IEKFTRbAfHGNhPv79LA07ZyxdLecBjMXv_aDSQg==&ch=YXe6HccffRpZj2_zIKUtbdkUiuzWmWuNVVAnREOTDjHbC528_aUoUg==] through Amazon.com; and by telephone order at (866) 746-7252 in the U.S. or (770) 442-8633 for international customers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Also From ACRL... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Databrarianship: The Academic Data Librarian in Theory and Practice [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ppO8f6fw1f5J045wQ78pm-e1wgkS8ROBuS8JxUF0YCi7Ws-TIu7b9Fh8szHJSDnwrnyaZTqloKy7KOPENV4fCLTwYqa68fEQMnYPBaoH3Y-jMogCKx7rbj4-x5U6k3HlnY7leDQu0goYKco1QutsAqRc5dVdSq8PaLbmTfxHwx8dFYEvIQJP8AQMzb4r-7W5wP80KiVFoJcepmSZ2hZGmA==&c=DTA1R6C0OI-lgb4IEKFTRbAfHGNhPv79LA07ZyxdLecBjMXv_aDSQg==&ch=YXe6HccffRpZj2_zIKUtbdkUiuzWmWuNVVAnREOTDjHbC528_aUoUg==] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Building Your Research Data Management Toolkit [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ppO8f6fw1f5J045wQ78pm-e1wgkS8ROBuS8JxUF0YCi7Ws-TIu7b9IAZg_WmnNFftXmgj7Nrsdx6fVP1TlCxEeXbnvQ9Se-rrzbm2YhoMcCPve5TXVH0165zLOu2DzPFex_u2sFqN-DVlDNAVgJgQ-24XzvAtId8u_L2s8QlUEHSfRplMVaitXCXOW-4JzBa&c=DTA1R6C0OI-lgb4IEKFTRbAfHGNhPv79LA07ZyxdLecBjMXv_aDSQg==&ch=YXe6HccffRpZj2_zIKUtbdkUiuzWmWuNVVAnREOTDjHbC528_aUoUg==] (ACRL Licensed Workshop) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Digital Humanities in the Library: Challenges and Opportunities for Subject Specialists [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ppO8f6fw1f5J045wQ78pm-e1wgkS8ROBuS8JxUF0YCi7Ws-TIu7b9MHRqwWXgo7YFgYMT9-8_NAGUqdsTXa3ZvqGYZ1rubsldurl36SIVy7Mbg-rv5VEHEAv4RuQY79PLE5gkliKKgd0sB_wo_b5XQe8jSGErQrh4EathjS23WwQssUJq-uRsX4Tmuf1KffvMBvkKYZ20d-_sE4PWtZTCQ==&c=DTA1R6C0OI-lgb4IEKFTRbAfHGNhPv79LA07ZyxdLecBjMXv_aDSQg==&ch=YXe6HccffRpZj2_zIKUtbdkUiuzWmWuNVVAnREOTDjHbC528_aUoUg==] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Visit the ACRL Publications Catalog [http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001ppO8f6fw1f5J045wQ78pm-e1wgkS8ROBuS8JxUF0YCi7Ws-TIu7b9PaMuzw9fdnbZyG9WnhLlJn6h80y7ka1CrC61uiEzHPqMW_fGBSG7NjVBouVwR2Odx7STYX8JElER-xhw21xwaUJdks8Vz0XxSJGCQHzWCluwaX-i1NzniwgDt9VxMVLOIljfrDZlmYX_RTYyugSi5wMw_zCjugLsRylNIhtLazX9a_amsV-c72KraoyoB8hPANGu9EQWqcaxYZ8EVlpFtoSVWW6v_dm55piv0Fz_Ds9&c=DTA1R6C0OI-lgb4IEKFTRbAfHGNhPv79LA07ZyxdLecBjMXv_aDSQg==&ch=YXe6HccffRpZj2_zIKUtbdkUiuzWmWuNVVAnREOTDjHbC528_aUoUg==] to discover a range of monographs to assist academic and research librarians in developing their professional careers, managing their institutions, and increasing their awareness of developments in librarianship. I have been introduced to this site only recently. What is the overall opinion - pros and cons - of using such a tool in your institution? I'm interested to hear from anyone using a similar tool, as well. For anyone unfamiliar, researchers will deposit a manuscript before it has undergone a peer review, allowing others to see, discuss, and comment on the findings immediately. Researchers who visit the site need to keep this in mind, as there may be errors or information that has not yet been accepted/endorsed by the scientific or medical community. There are options for posting immediately to social networking sites. Additionally, there are metrics for article usage by month (abstract and PDF) and number of Tweets. Thank you. [image: PTAB] *Gaithersburg, MD USA 6-10 March 2017* *High Level Training Course on ISO 14721, ISO 16363 and ISO 16919 for Managers of Digital Repositories,* *by the authors of these standards**.* The Primary Trustworthy Digital Repository Authorisation Body (ISO-PTAB) plays a major role in training auditors and repository managers. There are three important ISO standards: ? ISO 14721:2012 (OAIS ? a reference model for what is required for an archive to provide long-term preservation of digital information) ? ISO 16363:2013 (Audit and certification of trustworthy digital repositories ? sets out comprehensive metrics for what an archive must do, based on OAIS) ? ISO 16919:2014 (Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of candidate trustworthy digital repositories ? specifies the competencies and requirements on auditing bodies) These three standards form a closely related family and an understanding of their principles is becoming increasingly important in establishing an internationally recognised and certified set of Trustworthy Digital Repositories. Many national and commercial repositories are preparing for certification and legislation is already in place in Italy requiring repositories to be certified. It is important to ensure you have the knowledge to ensure your data is trustworthy and accessible in the future and a certified internationally recognised ISO certified repository will give your organisation/clients the confidence and reassurance that their data has been audited by an independent body to the highest standards. The correct training in preparation for certification is essential and there is no other organisation to equal the knowledge of PTAB in this area as the tutors are the authors of these standards. The 5-day training course will be held at The Hilton Washington DC North/Gaithersburg from 6-10 March 2017. The course is divided into modules, each of which consists of a presentation, practical exercises and discussion. *Who should attend:* ? Archivists and curators involved in managing large digitized content ? Digital repository managers ? IT professionals involved in managing / preserving e-governance data / e-records ? Librarians involved in managing open repositories, electronic thesis and publication repositories ? Decision makers / policy makers from archiving institutions In the first instance, please e-mail the PTAB Secretariat to register your interest at ptab-secretariat at iso16363.org Registration will be open shortly and the cost is $2000 with an* early-bird discount of 10% available until the 24 February 2017.* An invoice, logistics information, recommended reading list and tutor profiles will be forwarded to you as soon as you have registered for the course. Please ensure you register as soon as possible to guarantee your place as numbers for this course are limited.
