[Rdap] commercial data repositories in engineering

Good morning RDAP,
I had a brief conversation with a researcher in materials science Saturday who was advocating the use of open source software and then told me he sells his data to a commercial data repository. He knows of repositories where the owner of  the data can rent it to users.

Has anyone run in to commercial data repositories in engineering and can provide information?
