<p class="MsoNormal">Hi all,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I’ve been nosing around my chemistry department looking for someone to work with me on implementing an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) in their lab class without any success. So today a biology professor contacted me. He is teaching biochemistry
and wanting to incorporate an ELN in his lab this spring. He has been looking at SparkLix (<a href="http://www.sparklix.com/">http://www.sparklix.com/</a>), which is open source. He likes it because:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black">1. Free version available.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black">2. Web based, with ability to save results locally.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black">3. Straightforward interface.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.5pt;color:black">4. Ability to share data with labmates</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I have a libguide page on ELNs/virtual workspaces <a href="http://campusguides.lib.utah.edu/content.php?pid=126157&sid=2131670">
http://campusguides.lib.utah.edu/content.php?pid=126157&sid=2131670</a> , but no experience working with them. I’m being asked to find out from anyone who has experience using open source ELNs about reliability and longevity. The professor doesn’t want his
students to lose access to their work in the middle of a semester. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Any comments and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.<o:p></o:p></p>
