<i>Winchester, MA </i> The DuraSpace organization is a proud contributor to and supporter of the newly released NDSA <a href="http://www.digitalpreservation.gov/ndsa/nationalagenda/index.html" target="_blank">2014 National Agenda for Digital Stewardship</a> because we, like the leading government, academic, and private sector organizations who are part of the NDSA, believe that preserving our intellectual, cultural and scientific heritage is vital. The aim of the National Agenda for Digital Stewardship is to highlight emerging technological trends, identify gaps in digital stewardship capacity, and to provide funders and decision-makers with insight into the work needed to ensure that today's valuable digital content remains accessible and comprehensible in the future. A coordinated national approach to the preservation of our shared digital assets serves us all by supporting a thriving economy, a robust democracy, and a rich cultural heritage.<br>

<br>The NDSA 2014 National Agenda for Digital Stewardship has been developed and is being promoted by members of the of the National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA), a 145-member strong, volunteer-powered organization convened by the Library of Congress in 2010 to establish, maintain, and advance the capacity to preserve our nation's digital resources for the benefit of present and future generations. DuraSpace joins the NDSA in this mission because our organization is committed to our digital future. We encourage you to review the NDSA 2014 National Agenda for Digital Stewardship, reflect it out through your communities and consider how the work you are engaged in might sync with National Agenda priorities.<br>
<br>What is digital stewardship? It is the series of managed activities, policies, strategies and actions that ensure that digital content of vital importance to the nation is acquired, managed, organized, preserved and accessible for as long as necessary.<br>
<br>The 2014 National Agenda integrates the perspective of dozens of experts and hundreds of institutions, convened through the Library of Congress, it outlines the challenges and opportunities related to digital preservation activities in four broad areas: Organizational Roles, Policies, and Practices; Digital Content Areas; Infrastructure Development; and Research Priorities.<br>
<br>The National Agenda identifies a number of areas targeted for key investment, including:<br><br>•Digital Stewardship Training and Staffing<br>•Applied Research on Information Valuation, Curation Cost and effective auditing<br>
•Experiments in Interoperability and Portability of Storage Architectures<br>•Integration of Digital Forensics Tools into Stewardship Workflows<br>•Development of the evidence base through surveys, experiments, and testbed<br>
<br>Over the coming year the NDSA plans to promote the National Agenda and explore educational and collaborative opportunities with all interested parties.<br><br><b>About NDSA</b><br><br>Founded in 2010, the National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA) is a consortium of over 145 member institutions committed to the long-term preservation and stewardship of digital information.
