The Tromsø Study was initiated in 1974 in an attempt to help combat the high mortality due to cardiovascular diseases in Norway. The primary aim of the Tromsø Study was to determine the reasons for the high mortality rate, and also to develop ways of preventing
heart attacks and strokes. The study was gradually expanded to include many other diseases.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
