Stanford Medicine is seeking a full-time Librarian 3 to support the data management and visualization needs of faculty, students, and staff. Working in a fast-paced data rich environment, the Data Services and Visualization Librarian will work with researchers across Stanford Medicine to effectively manage, synthesize, and apply various forms of digital data. Stanford Medicine is leading the Precision Health revolution through a collaboration that joins fundamental research, biomedical breakthroughs, data science, engineering, business, design, technology, and patient care. This position will help transform how we approach health while realizing the Precision Health vision.

Reporting to the Director for Research & Instruction, the Data Services and Visualization Librarian is a core member of the Research & Instruction team at the Lane Medical Library & Knowledge Management Center. This position will work closely with the other Research & Instruction librarians to provide consultations, systematic reviews, data extraction support, and data management training for Stanford Medicine faculty, students, and staff.

The Data Services and Visualization Librarian will fully participate in Lane Medical Library’s instructional programs, assist in the design and creation of new instructional materials, develop and teach classes related to data usage, best practices in data visualization and display, emerging technologies, and bibliographic management tools. This position will also provide research reference services and collaborate with faculty and students to perform online database searches, consult on copyright, and other scholarly communications topics.

Duties include:
•          Provide expert searching and data analysis in support of research projects, systematic reviews, bibliometics, and patient care.
•          Develop and leads instructional sessions and outreach focused on management, interpretation, analysis and visualization of varying forms of data.
•          Work with the Director for Research and Instruction on the creation and implementation of data fluency initiatives targeted to the hospital, School of Medicine and Stanford related institutes and centers.
•          Investigate the feasibility of providing new services in support of population health activities and/or data sharing and makes recommendations to senior leadership.
•          Provide liaison support for faculty, staff and students to designated departments and centers.
•          Provide end-user training. Participate in Lane’s Instructional Program by developing and offering web-based training tools or tutorials and in-person classes and workshops.
•          Select library materials and information resources around nursing, health research policy, translational medicine and related disciplines, including responsibility for collection management and preservation decision-making.
•          Make recommendations for the upgrade of electronic and manual resource tools. Participate in the evaluation, modification, and development of software, online databases or digital resources.
•          Collaborate with library faculty and staff across the libraries on research, teaching, and data related projects.

Qualifications
 DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•          An ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree, or, a Master’s or higher degree in Public Health, Statistics or relevant data intensive discipline
•          Demonstrated knowledge in the field of epidemiology and/or health statistics
•          Experience in one or more of the following areas: bioinformatics, programming languages (e.g. R or Python), data curation, data visualization or similar skill sets
•          Knowledge of current metadata standards and ontology development
•          Ability to think creatively and identify new areas of library service across the institution
•          Advanced level of searching competence
•          Demonstrated teaching ability using a variety of educational pedagogies
•          Ability to work as part of a small, highly collaborative team
•          Ability to easily network and influence both internally and externally across the organization
•          Capacity to meet expectations in a changing environment
•          Flexibility while influencing others to improve processes and implement changes
Preferred
•          Experience executing systematic reviews, meta-analysis or related research projects
•          Certified Data or Software Carpentry Instructor or similar program training
•          Experience with Covidence, DistillerSR, Revman or similar data management programs
•          Previous experience working in a health sciences library
