When it comes to 3D CAD, CAM, CAE data, government agencies, a few
universities, and private industry have been working on these issues for
decades. Here are a few resources that might interest members of this list.

PDES, Inc. <https://pdesinc.org/> is an international industry, government,
and university consortium committed to accelerating the development and
implementation of standards for product data exchange in the Digital
Enterprise.

LOng Term Archiving and Retrieval - LOTAR

of LOTAR International is to develop, test, publish and maintain standards
for long-term archiving (LTA) of digital data, such as 3D CAD and PDM data.

NIST Model-Based Enterprise Summit 2018

The CAx (CAD, CAM, CAE) Implementor Forum
<https://www.cax-if.org/index.html>is a joint testing effort between AFNeT,
PDES, Inc. and prostep ivip. The objective of the forum is to accelerate
CAx translator development and ensure that users' requirements are
satisfied.

3D Collaboration & Interoperability Congress
<https://www.action-engineering.com/3dcic> OCTOBER 15 - OCTOBER 18, 2018 in
Golden, CO

The Innovative Software and Design Analysis (ISDA) group at the National
Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), University of
Illinois-Urbana/Champaign has done research and developed a number of open
source tools for working with 3D files in many formats - not just CAx. See
