The push for open data has become ubiquitous, but challenges are still
ahead in attaining equitable and sustainable access through disciplinary,
institutional, and publisher repositories. This webcast will briefly review
the current landscape of data repositories and the challenges researchers
continue to face. The presenters will discuss how repositories present
opportunities and threats to equitable and sustainable access. The webcast
will continue with an exploration of the DataONE model and how this
NSF-funded network of data repositories is implementing best practices for
deposit, provenance, access, sustainability, and reuse for earth sciences
data.
