Wow, good idea to use them as examples. Guess I'll start saving a few for demos.
Thanks everyone

I get them because I'm listed on the College of Dentistry website as faculty. SO many invitations for writing about my Dental Research!!!

I do a lot of blocking, but I save my favorites for when I'm teaching others about "you will get spam, let's look at some examples and how to be critical"

Hi Daureen,

Yes, I also get these requests!

Sounds like you might be getting phishing emails from potentially predatory conferences as cold emails or solicitations from an unknown conference organizer outside of your field are often signs of this. I would recommend this article from The Huffington Post: Predatory Conferences Undermine Science And Scam Academics<https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/dr-madhukar-pai/predatory-conferences-academia_b_12467834.html?ec_carp=5942490893497754955> by Pai and Franco and check out the Think.Check.Attend website<https://thinkcheckattend.org/> for more information.

Unfortunately, this is becoming more and more common, similar to predatory journals seeking authors to publish in their journals. I'm not sure if there is a way to identify a source or block these emails. I would recommend marking as spam and hopefully your email client will start recognizing them automatically.

Thanks!

Stephanie

Hi all,
I’m wondering if I’m not the only one receiving way too many invitations to speak at conferences – wait – on subjects ranging from welding, pathology, genetics, electronics, immunology, etc.
I’m a little disappointed the subjects are not RDM, animal welfare in research, research posters or even squirrel behavior and chemical ecology (my MS-PhD work)!

Is anyone else plagued by these requests and do you have any idea which list is causing it?

-Best
Daureen
